Viru Sehwag’s Ordinary Team Comment about Bangladesh Cricket Team
Trust Virendra Sehwag to come up with such statements. He does not seem to surprise (or shock) people, be it with his bat or tongue. By claiming the Bangladesh team to be a very ordinary side that present no threat to India, the current No. 1 Test team, he has made sure of two things: he has certainly fired up the Bangladesh team to prove him wrong, and secondly probably ensured that we have a competition to watch! Hopefully the taunt really motivates the opponents to do their best and give the Indans a tough time.
It is day two of the first test and by what has transpired so far, we have seen exactly what we expected. The Bangla team has really embarrassed the India team – and with sole exception of Sachin Tendulkar (who was incidentally dropped when he was on 16) the Indian team collapsed against the “ordinary team” bowling. I am wondering what Sehwag must be thinking about now? I won’t be surprised if he comes up with another statement that will be equally “spicy” as the earlier one!
People debated about whether he should have made that statement in the first place. I think he has always been a “I will do what I think is right” kinda guy, and has never lived by what others would want him to do. So in that respect he has maintained his stance and spoke about what and how he felt about the Bangladesh Cricket team. And, in the heart of hearts I think most of us Indians would agree with what he said. So why then, should he not say what he felt? Some people who advocate “diplomacy” may beg to differ and I don’t blame them. In the end, there is really nothing right or wrong about what Sehwag said. It really boils down to personal opinion.
What do you thin about this episode. Was Sehwag right in issuing a statement saying the Bangladesh Cricket Team is an ordinary team?
