Harbhajan, Praveen Kumar Partnership Australia India Vadodara ODI
I normally don’t want cricket much these days, I think it’s due to the overdose of T20 and so many competitions and so many teams. I lose track of who plays for whom!
Anyway, I do watch if Sachin is playing a match. I an a die-hard fan of Sachin Tendulkar. So I was watching this 1st one day international between India and Australia being played at Vadodara. I never watch the full match, but in between my internet browsing, lunches, playing with my 8 year old daughter and of course the numerous times of switching channels to the Cartoon network by my daughter. It was a Sunday, so slept off after a heavy lunch!
Woke up at about 4:00 PM and saw the score at some 240 something for 7 wickets, with Bhajji and Praveen Kumar at the crease. Well, I thought, should I switch channels as there is no hope. Not that I was crestfallen or something, I was just thinking of how to use my TV time more effectively! But for some reason did not change the channel started to complete reading the Sunday Newspaper. Within minutes I was sitting on the edge of my sofa watching in utter amazement, the array of shots from the bats of Bhajji and Praveen Kumar. All over the field, the Aussies were made to look like Indian cricketers when they get clobbered! They looked clueless. The 20 minutes that I watched was a ton of fun even though we lost in the end. Same old story of our inability to “close” deals after coming so close! Nevertheless it was a great game to watch – at the last 10 overs!
The moral of the story is: So much is possible when you have nothing to lose! We take unnecessary tension all the time and that hampers our performance. Mind you, I am not advocating being “careless” and throwing your bat around! All i am saying is we can do so much better than what we end up doing. But almost always try to think about “what if this does not happen”, “what if i fail”, “will i get another chance” – and we fritter our “present” chances away thinking about the future! The best way to approach this (or any situation in life) is to know that you are good at what you are doing, nothing else matters, just do a sincere job and do justice to your capabilities. Worrying about the results or the future is not going to help you in the least. Just enjoy what you are doing, the rest is really not in your control.
Our team should be thinking on those lines. They should in fact go there and do their best, not worry about “what if we lose”. We are surely going to lose if we think on those lines.
