Shashi Tharoor ‘cattle class’ comment on Congress Austerity Drive
It is unbelievable that someone in a public position such as his, makes mockery of the Indian public. Shashi Tharoor who was voted to the Lok Sabha a few months ago from Kerala has ridiculed the Congress’ Austerity Drive initiated by the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, calling it a “eye wash”.
When queried about whether he would travel economy class in keeping with the Congress’ Austerity drive, he responded “Absolutely, in cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows”. While I am aware that he is a very qualified, highly educated minister, a remark such as this really puts me off. This statement of his is in such bad taste. He just berates the same “cattle class” that put him in this powerful position. Maybe, he is rich enough to pay his own bills for his 5-start hotel stays, but the responsibility he has now accepted requires that he go along with the agenda of his party. He must focus on “how can I help people, now that I have the power”; instead this gentleman calls them herd class!
Instead of sitting in cozy comforts of a 5-star and passing smart ass remarks such as this, he should be spending time thinking about how he can use his time and position to do something good for the country. Maybe he is doing something, but that’s not easily visible. T one thing he must observe at any time: Do not insult the people on India. They may be poor, and have no voice, but do not screw around with them – you will not get another chance!
What do you guys think?
