Mysore Airport Has No Takers: Why Was It Built In The First Place?

Today report in newspapers claim that Air India and other Private airlines are refusing to fly out of Mysore. They have cited “lack of passengers” as the reason. So who was the smart person that decided to build the airport in the first place? Was there no due diligence conducted before they wasted all the public money on something that was not going to be useful for the people?

What is the criteria for deciding building infrastructure in our country? Who studies the needs of the people and infrastructure requirements around any geography? I am pretty sure that people who decide on these mega projects are at best illiterate and have their personal agendas. Unless they are extremely stupid, of course!

In fact, looks like the State Government had lined up Rs. 1200 crores for 5 more airports in the state. Looks like the Karnataka government has a lot of money and do not know how to spend it?

The inauguration of the Mysore Airport is coming up on May 15, 2010. It will be inaugurated by Praful Patel, the Civil Aviation Minister. I wonder if he will be flying down? Maybe that’s the only plane that will land and take off for a while?
