Hrithik Roshan, Kites, Barbara Mori: Very Avoidable Film
Yesterday I got 3 free tickets to go watch Kites. It was a horrible film. Extremely boring right from the beginning. Not only did the film makers think that we were a bunch of idiots watching, they also took the Indian “rich man owns the Police and Politicians” culture to the US state of Nevada.
The film just did not have any continuity. There was a lot of English and Spanish spoken. English sub-titles do not help. Hrithikk Roshan was wasted. I wonder why he did this film, which obviously had a moronic script to start with. Maybe his father arm-twisted him!
The Spaniard actress Barbara Mori was passable. She looked lost in this drama, can’t blame her. There was total confusion. There were at least 4 flashbacks – I lost count after that. People look confused (and insulted) for having to sit through this nonsense of a movie.
The Film revolves around an Indian guy falling in love with a Spaniard. They both then shun the riches they could have got and plunge into deep trouble when they step on the toes of a Casino Owner (who seemed richer than Warrren Buffet). The Casino owner (Kabir Bedi) of course, is a bad guy, who chops the ears of people who cheat in his casino while his even bad son (Don’t know his name) watches gleefully.
The main thing that I did not like about the movie was the way in which they were promoting the violence, rampant (and implied killing) of innocent policemen, people travelling in cars. they were just busy promoting the race between the police and these two love birds, who seem to outsmart the entire Las Vegas police force. Too much destruction, mindless running around and just crazyto sit for the entire film.
The only good part was that Kites was just about 2 hours and 10 minutes (Thank God!!!!). The bad guy was convincingly menacing – just in your face pest kinda guy who you would want to whack to death! I just liked that one song “Jindagi, do pal ki…” was the only “soothing” part in the whole movie.
My recommendation – need I say more? Recommend Kites it ONLY to people you hate!!!!
I was hearing a lot of things about Anurag Basu – saw him (on TV) pick up some awards last month at some function. Man, if this is the quality of films he makes, God save our country – from people who judge movies and directors!
