No End to Jet Airways Pilots Strike Day 4: Revenue Loss Rs. 100 Cr

All hopes of reaching a settlement at a meeting between the Jet Airways Management and the Pilots Guild on Friday, September 11, 2009, were dashed to the ground with no party willing to compromise on their respective stands.  The meeting was held in New Delhi in the presence of the Labor Commissioner. The next meeting is scheduled today September 12th 2009, this time in Mumbai.

The Friday meeting attendees included the Chief Labour Commissioner S K Upadhyay, Jet executive director Saroj Dutta, CEO Hafiz Ali and head of operation Captain Mohan. Captain Girish Kaushik and Captain Sam Thomas were representing The pilots’ body National Aviators Guild (NAG).

The pilots have maintained that they would not return to work until the management took back four colleagues who were sacked. Two of them were allegedly fired 45 days ago for forming a union – the National Aviators Guild (NAG). Later, two more were asked to leave as the protest action began.

The four-day strike has led to the cancellation of nearly 700 flights, costing hardships to over 28,000 passengers. The company is estimated to have lost nearly Rs. 100 crores in revenues already due to this disruption.

Jet Airways have about 760 pilots of which almost 500 have gone on “sick leave”.
